Safety Tips

Here are some simple steps to ensure that you are safely using your card.

Card Safety Tips
Memorize your Personal Identification Number (PIN); never carry your written PIN with your card. Also, never give out your PIN to anyone.
When changing your PIN; do not use any number or word that appears in your wallet such as name, birth date, or address.
Shop with merchants you know and trust.
Regularly review your monthly bank statement to verify your debit card transactions. Immediately contact Harris Debit Card Services at 1-888-340-2265 (Option 3) if you notice any suspect charges or discrepancies in the dollar amount listed on your statement versus your transaction receipts.
If your card is ever lost or stolen, notify Harris Debit Card Services at 1-888-340-2265 (Option 3) as soon as possible.
ATM Safety Tips
Whenever possible, conduct ATM transactions in highly visible locations, during the daytime.
When conducting nighttime transactions, if possible, bring a friend with you.
If alone at night, select an ATM that is in a well-lit and busy area. If you notice suspicious individuals nearby, seek another ATM location.
If the ATM you plan to use is in a vestibule, be sure to close the door completely when you enter and leave.
When parking your car to use an ATM, turn off the ignition, lock the car, and take your keys with you.
When using a drive-up ATM, keep your engine running and all doors locked, with only the driver's window open.
Have your card ready to make your transaction and stand directly in front of the ATM keyboard or merchant terminal to block the view of anyone behind you. If you notice a suspicious person observing you, simply cancel your transaction and leave.
Be discreet when counting your cash. Put the money, card, and receipt away before you leave. Do not throw your receipt on the ground or leave it behind. Receipts should also be kept to verify your transactions and help resolve any errors.
Internet Safety Tips
When purchasing online, ensure that the transaction is encrypted to protect your account information. Look for the "secure transaction" symbols in the lower right-hand corner of your Web browser.
For added security when buying online, enroll in MasterCard® SecureCodeTM. Protect your cards with your own personal password. Click here for more information.
Never email your card number, as email is typically not secure.
Always log off completely from any site after completing an online purchase transaction. If a "log off" feature is not provided, close your browser to prevent unauthorized access to your account information.
